Meeting Agenda

MORNING SESSION

Joining Together: Morning Plenary
Welcome to the virtual 2021 AFL-CIO District Meetings! As we join together, we will open up with remarks from AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Liz Shuler (IBEW) about the importance of winning a Workers First Agenda.
Morning Workshops
In the morning workshops, we’ll break into small groups to dive into the nuts and bolts of running a winning program for America’s labor movement. Whether you choose to join a conversation around voting rights, get more information about organizing around the PRO Act or sharpen your communications skill set, you’ll have a chance to learn, collaborate and strategize with your peers in the movement.
Let's Pass the PRO Act and Win the Workers First Agenda!
As Americans and as a labor movement, we’ve faced some tough challenges during the past 18 months. We’ve had to face three simultaneous crises: a health care crisis, an economic crisis and a racial justice crisis. In the midst of all of that, we won the most important election of our lifetimes. Now, we have the wind at our back. We’ve passed the American Rescue Plan, and we’re fighting for the American Jobs Plan and the PRO Act. In this session, we’ll tell that story and lay out our road map for the future. Then, we'll hear from Executive Vice President Tefere Gebre for closing remarks in the morning session.
Panel Discussion: Investing for the Union Economy
Join a panel of experts to hear about how we can use our collective purchasing power to impact public policy, like passing the PRO Act.

Networking Lunch with Our Union Economy Partners

Grab your lunch, catch up on emails and phone calls and then join our union economy partners for small group networking sessions.

AFTERNOON SESSION

Joining Together: Afternoon Plenary
As we come back together, hear from a union member who has been elected to public office. We’ll hear how having one of our own in office is having a real impact on the lives of working families.
Breakout by State
Meet your union family from your state as we break into smaller groups to brainstorm organizing strategies to pass the PRO Act and implement our entire Working Families Agenda. In this time, you’ll have a chance to help build the strategy of our labor movement this year!
Our Story in 2020 and 2021
We’ve accomplished some great things as a labor movement in the past year—let’s take a moment to reflect on our challenges and victories in your region.
Town Hall with AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka
Don’t miss out on the chance to hear directly from the leader of our labor movement! AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka (UMWA) will share a few reflections, and then we’ll take Q&A from participants during a live town hall.
